Gather at the Lamma Fisherfolk’s Village

Welcome and Introduction

Upon arriving at the Lamma Fisherfolk’s Village, our professional instructor will engagingly explain the importance of ocean ecological restoration.

You will learn about the challenges facing Hong Kong's marine environments, such as habitat loss, overdevelopment, and the impact of abandoned fishing gear on ecosystems. We'll also explore the goals of the United Nations' "Decade on Ecosystem Restoration" (2021-2030) and how to promote marine conservation through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

DIY Workshop: Creation and Placement of Restoration Units

Recycling and Upcycling: Participants will use discarded shells from restaurants and abandoned fishing nets to create intricate mesh bags, transforming these "wastes" into habitats for marine life!

Knot-Tying Skills: Learn traditional knot-tying techniques to securely attach the restoration components to fish rafts.

Placement of Restoration Units: Place your handmade restoration components on the fish rafts, creating microhabitats to support the breeding and settlement of fish, shellfish, and other marine organisms.

Citizen Science: Observation and Recording of Marine Life

Retrieve Restoration Units: Collect restoration units placed months ago and observe the marine life attached, such as small fish, shellfish, and seaweed.

Recording and Analysis: Under the guidance of instructors, document the observed species and learn about their roles and functions within the ecosystem.



Interactive Learning: Engage in fun quizzes and discussions to deepen your understanding of Hong Kong's marine biodiversity and foster a sense of responsibility for ecological conservation.

Explore the Lamma Fisherfolk’s Village

Visit the largest marine exhibition area in Hong Kong, the Lamma Fisherfolk’s Village, located in the Sok Kwu Wan fish farming zone. Spanning approximately 2,000 square meters, this innovative attraction showcases the traditional culture of Hong Kong's indigenous fishermen and the history of the fishing industry.

Discover fascinating fishermen's stories, experience the charm of bygone fishing ports, observe local marine life, board ancient fishing boats to learn about waterborne lifestyles, and try your hand at exciting catch-and-release fishing games. Test your skills and see if you can reel in the big one!
